Hello, I just got a yamaha 225 trik (shaft driven) and was wondering what the diff was between a 225DX, and a 225DR? is it in the motor, or the shaft? Cuz I torn apart the trik the other day and found the U- joint had snaped. I went in to the local dealer for the parts, but they wanted to know if it were a DX or a DR! I guess they want $425 +tax Canadian for the U-joint and yoaks. I'd never pay that much for it (the trik only cost $250). So I'm currently locating a u-Joint off the steering colum off some old swather or somethin...... and modify it to fit! does anyone know what machine (combine, swather.....) would be the closest Fit?

DR has reverse, DX doesn't

I don't think there is a difference in the u-joint. The DR has reverse so there is a sub-transmission on the side which makes for a shorter shaft then the DX. I have some DX parts if you need just PM me, I just don't have the u-joint, but others on this site probably do.

Well I think I found a u-joint that might work! I have an old 198?'s ford car, with a u-joint on the steering colum, its accully a little bigger, but if I can get a machinest to cut new splines, it should work (I hope)!!! but thanks for the info on DX and DR!! :beer

Check on the steering stem, I guess that's what you would call it. At the top front of the frame, it has the vin and year, and model info on there. Should be a little sticker, or tag. And I love living on the border of Canada and the U.S. No need to worry about shipping issues.

Here's what I found on an ATV website for dating your Yamaha by the VIN number. My stickers are long gone so I used this guide:

Here is the iso standard: "The year code in the Vehicle Identification Number is the 10th position. The key for this 10th digit is given below:

1980=A
1981=B
1982=C
1983=D
1984=E
1985=F
1986=G
1987=H
1988=K
1989=K
1990=L

Hope this helps
