well my new used 1982 250r is coming on tuesday and i am very happy, i want to make the damn thing a straight away bullet, but still making it able to ride trails, i was thinking by starting on the sprockets, what do you guys think

put a bigger carb and piston. :beer

what type of riding do you do?Id you do a lot of woods riding then you will want it geared low but if you do a lot of straight out driving then you will want the oppsite,a performance exhaust system will help it out too and maybe some small tires if it already does not have it.

do NOT put a bigger piston in then you need, NEVER bore out a aircooled R more then you need, unless you just want it for real quick rides, the more you bore out a air cooled R, the easier it overheats, and when they overheat they lose alot of power untill there cooled down, just see what size piston you need, hone the cylinder, and throw that same size wiseco in.

i dont' no much about air cooled 250rs. but thanx for some good advice. couldn't the air filter do something too?

An air filter wont add a noticeable amount of power

If it is bad to bore out air cooled R's then why did Honda offer a factory 300R kit for them? Just something to think about. If you are that curious about their cooling I'll give you chassis dyno numbers for a stock R versus my HRC 300R. They run within 10 degrees of each other via the thermocouples on the jug and head.

You guys want sheets from the entire pull or just the temps differences from when there is the most spread between the two bikes?

As far as I know the 300 kit is a whole different cylinder that has larger air fins to accomodate the extra heat from a larger bore. Makes sense to me.

wtf are you talking about firehead? the 300 kit is a whole different cylinder and head, and intake, and exhaust manifold, with more fins and more surface air to cool better, its not like its a sleeve kit, its a whole different cylinder
EDITED- Damnit billy, you beat me to it, LOL

the reasoning that the 300 kits runs nearly the same is it probably has something, the special had that comes wiith it, bigger cooling fins, or something similar to those. Boring out bikes in general doesn't gain power, no I am not reffering to specific big bore bore cylinders, sleaves, I referring to boring a cylinder 20 over to 80 over, power is nearly the same and you just wasted 5 bores. Porting, carb, reeds makes power not a 10 thousanths bigger piston. Also how you jet your bike, and type of fuel used plays a bigger part to how hot a motor runs.

Ahh yes. You guys are right. I hadn't looked all that closely, but they are different. My bad. Over boring doesn't do much to give you more power. Deathman is right. I couldn't say it better myself.

The best and cheapest way to add "speed" or go "faster" is not parts but YOU.
Learn to ride the 250r well; shift points, landing jumps, etc, get to know your trike, maintenance, gearing, adjusting the ride height and shocks, fuel ratio, carb adjustment, etc. None of that will cost big bucks and all will add to YOUR pleasure and make you much faster.

You'd probably have to find one on eBay as I'm pretty sure they don't make them anymore.
