Gday,

I took the vins of my 250es's the other day and cant figure out why they are so diffrent.

85 - jh3te0407fm104062
87 - teo4-5000292

Why are they so diffrent even though they are both 250es's?

Thanks,

Matt

The 85 vin number is the number on the frame. While the 87 is the motor serial number. If you look at the 85's serial number on the motor you will see it is similar to the the 87.

I have been told by a dealer, That if it is original the last 7 digits of the frame vin number and the last 7 of the motor serial number should match ( on the same machine ). ;)

They should match closely..... I know my 'Showgirl' 85 350x has the original engine in it and it's ~100 off from the frame number. My '86 350X is about ~200 off from the frame number. I'd say it's original too. I know that the production numbers of frames vs engines is not equal. The frame and the engine number should be relatively close.

For what it's worth, I'm with Bruce on this one. The Frame and engine numbers will NOT match, however, will be reasonably close!

Matt,

Does your '87 have a chasis plate (not the model year decal, but an actual aluminium plate) riveted to the headstock with the standard Honda disclaimers, build date, chasis number etc etc? If it does, then the number on that is your full frame number which should read very similar (in length and use of letters and number sequences) to the '85. The initial letters and numbers will be "Printed" on to the plate, whilst the sequence of numbers that change with each unit built will be punched. The number stamped directly onto the headstock is usually just an abreviation of the information on the plate (or that's how it is here in the UK)

If it doesn't have the plate, then I have no idea why the VINs are so different.

Cheers,
Jez

Both these numbers came off the headstock. I havent taken the engine numbers yet, Ill see how they compare later....oh and no my trike doesnt have any aluminium plates on it anywhere.
