Actually its pronounced "teh-kah-teh" :beer like the mexican beer. The one with salt and lemon. Beer which I don't care for but my sister loves the stuff. Ta-kaw-tee sounds like the american (here in texas anyways) pronunciation of "mesa" (table) 'May-za' or Kay Sadiya (a cute chick) which is actually pronounced "Keh-sadiya" there is no 'Y' in either word.

The name came from the Tecate desert in Mexico,,,err is it south cali?? I dunno but its over there somewhere.Back in the late 70's/early 80's there was a big atv/bike baja race there.

Tecate is a border town and desert in Mexico. It is east of Tiajuana, and south of San Isidro California. It has no meaning in the mexican vocabulary other than in refrence to the beer or town,or maby to the bike that the crazy gringo just flew by them on. :D
