Well liek i said before going mudding with a air filter straight off the carb. But you prob got alot of mud and crud inside your engine so your gunna need to let it run or idle for a bit then see if it clears up.

DO NOT spray water into your intake..... First look at all obvious things, like cleaning your air filter.. And go from there... If you think dirt may have gotten into the carb, take it off, and clean it out...

Clean the carb, and airfilter. Make sure your intake boot is tighten down on both ends.

be sure your throttle cable is all the way in the barrel on top of the carb, and on the thumb throttle. :beer

If it is really reving up alot...I would check to see if the carb slide is in the right way. If it is turned around 180 degrees it will be like having the throttle half way open all the time. my.02

are you talking about the siver piece that goes in with the throtttle cable and what ever?

Remember the choke cuts down on air flow, after turning it off you increase air flow. It sounds like you may have the carb set too lean thats why it does ok with choke on and revs with choke off.

That is the item Samster mentioned. If you have it 1/2 a turn wrong it keeps the carb wide open. ;)

... ha d that happen to me on my '82 R once ..... ough ..... anyway, sounds to me though like its a leaky intake, as mentioned before. Run it with the choke on, then spray a little wd-40 or starter fluid after the carb on the engine side onto the intake tube - if anything happens, stalls or revs, you have a leak.
