different strokes for different folks. its hard to say what would make someone do that when we dont know anything about them. so give them the benefit of the doubt and let them do what they want.

Perhaps its a yet to be discovered "Jesse James" wannabe trying their hand at Monster (motorcycle) Garage. It would be cool if it shot flames or something.

Guys, you've got to remember that most of these conversions were done in the mid and late 80s when they were the hot item. Nobody's buying good trikes and doing conversions now, but back then we were told by Barbara Walters that just walking past a trike was dangerous - and God save the poor sole that actually tried to ride one.

We were also told that quads were cute and harmless and "turned like they're on rails." So, people bought these goofy conversions and hacked up perfectly good trikes.

no, a waste of a good 350X is when you have to leave it in your garage because the place you are riding doesn't allow 3 wheelers. The guy who made this probably saved that 350X from a life of sitting.

Good point. That's another reason why the conversion may have happened.

Regardless Cliff,I would not my trike to be converted into a damn cart, come on now! I rather have it sit like it was made rather then it being another diabled 3wheeler. LOOK for places to ride, its not that hard.

i'm not saying that i'd do it, but you have no idea why they did that. maybe some kids mom said he had to sell his trike cause there are dangerous (wrong opinion btw) and he convinced her that he would get a conversion on it so he could keep it? maybe it handles awesome and we dont even know? I love my trikes, and wouldn't ever do that to any of them on my own free will, but if i was forced to do that so i could still enjoy my whatever you want to call it, i would. people need to be more understanding in this country, it would be a much more pleasent place

Lets see if we can quit crying long enough to put a little context in this. Imagine the year is 1988. Yeah, I know, a lot of you were in diapers or not yet born. That was about when I was first exposed to ATV,s but still reluctant to let go of the dirt bikes Id ridden for so many years. At that time, probably 60% of the ATVs being ridden were still 3 wheelers. Hardly what youd call collectors items. Used quads sold for well over $2000 for low end models. The "premium" used models sold for a lot more. There werent any "old ones" yet. Honda had their mighty TRX250R, and Yamaha had their Banshee, and Suzuki's LT's were around but not in big numbers. This was the extent of the premium lineup. If you wanted a 4 stroke, you had the 250X or the Warrior. At that time your 350X was worth $800-900. (I bought my TriZ for $700 in '90). Somebody comes along with this conversion kit for $1600, and you start thinking about the "ultimate quads" that werent being built. You know, the same way guys today always talk about destroying a vintage trike and hacking and welding the frame to stuff some motor in it that it was never meant to hold. Thats a differnet issue, but during that time, dont you think the idea of turning a 350x into a quad as a competitor to the 250x and Warrior might have been somewhat logical? Imagine having $2500 and the choice between buying a 250x or building a 350X quad. Remember, trikes outnumber quads at this time, and the idea of preservation and restoration of them was a joke. What would you do? At least they made a 4 wheeled version of the 250R, which is why conversion of that model are less frequently seen, but it was still cheaper to build one than to buy one back then, granted with an inferior front end. 200X kits were available, but Ive never seen one. Their lack of popularity would make sense with the TRX250x being sold, and much cheaper than the R. The TriZ kit seems to have been as popular as the 350X kit. As far as handling, the coversion kit Quad-Z outhandles the TRX250R in every respect other than lack of front suspension travel, and the low end power of the motor outperforms the mighty TRX250R in both MX and HS. Yes, there were actually stock 250R's back then.

So in answer to the question "WHY?"
Because they made one Badazz quad back in the day, and some of us who were around then can appreciate that. When these guys were turning comtemporary machines into their ultimate dream quads, they werent thinking that someday Al Gore would invent an internet, and that the babies watching from their strollers would grow up and use that internet 15 years later to talk about how stupid they were for "destroying classics."

I would strongly recommend buying any of these high end model conversions with the Astro kits if you appreciate vintage performance quads and a piece of history at a fraction of their original cost. It should go without saying that it makes no sense to buy a kit and do a conversion today.

Believe it or not, if that is one of the actual kits to convert from three wheels to four on that thing, it is a collectors item. It's also probably going to be worth some money some day.

Is it that bad over there that you are not allowed to ride in some areas because you ride a three wheeler????

I won the thing on ebay and the guy wrote to me and said he's having a problem with them?Sound's like he's backing out what an a--hole.I thought I seen it on ebay before.I have big plan's if I get it.It also supose to have perfect original rear fender.I have a pefect 1985 350x and 1986 350x and this would be a sweep but I also have a XR650 motor almost fully mounted in a bare 350x frame right now. It's not easy guy's dual carb's and motor is taller I have to dent the tank for clearance and custom air box, lower frame need's to be lowered 2-4".
