i am starting on the rings...my ? is do i need to remove the motor from the frame or can i pull the top end with it still in the frame?

You can do it while its in the frame .... remove the Tank to make it easier.

If you are going to do it in the frame, I would also add that you should give the beast a really good bath before you start.

yea a bath is in order (maybe i'll get the other half to do that)
the reason i ask about the motor is because when i put it in the frame originally i had to use porta-power to spread the frame to fit the spacers in the front...has anyone had this prob or is my frame tweeked?

dam... i pulled it apart and the piston is cracked on both sides from the skirt to the top of the wrist pin...
time for a bore job and new piston kit...
i have a new set of stock rings anybody need them?

How much? I have been wanting to re-ring my 81 250r motor for a while now. You should post a pic of the piston and cylinder ..
