Differences in 85-86 & 87 Big Red Rear Assembly

I am Having some trouble. I bought a 87 Big Red and it turns out that it has a bent axle. ( the left rear tire wobbles about 1 inch). I Know that there are some differences in the 85-86 and 87 models rear assembly. The rear swingarm is quite a bit different, and the rear brake drum is different. I am in dire need of an axle for it and I am not sure if a 85 or 86 axle will work( they appear to be the same. I would think it would, but im not sure. As you can imagine an 87 is hard to find. I hate to blow the money for nothing. Bike bandit parts website shows different part numbers for a 87 axle. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Why not have the axle bent back??
Most bike/ATV shops will provide this service....

Im pretty sure 85 and 86 axels will work. I have both an 85 and 87 and they look the same, not that ive had the 87 axel out yet.

The 87 axle is bent, the 85 models axle is screwed beyond help. I have been told that it might be pretty costly to straighten. I had a drive shaft straghtened once and it was $100. Nut I will do some checking. Any more tips or info is greatly appreciated. Thanks for the help John.

Understood, but you shouldn't be charged anymore than $20-30 to do it. A driveshaft is a different beast altogether! Cannot be compared.

okay folks ,,, anybody know what the chances of a 1985 sx axle fitting clays
85 bigred (250es). or even fitting his 87 bigred ???
the sx hubs are the same ,,, and we all know you can switch the differentials. so how about the axles ,,, are they interchangable ???

I can only say that the 87 SX axle is very different from 85 model. The 86 and 87 models are identical.

If the fella who needs it would show a picture of his 87 Red axle and I'll let him know if it looks like my spare 86/87 axle.

Ok guys I been doing some looking. Would a complete rear swingarm assembly off a 86 Honda TRX bolt on to the 87 Big Red? Any one know? I have located on for a good price. It has everything. Just bolt it on and go. If it will work. What do you guys think?

nope, big red swingers mount inside the frame, sx and trx 250 swingers mount outside the frame... bummer
