fenders and tank plastic (cleaning)

I have read in here some where that someone cleaned up their fenders with sand paper. If so what grit of sand paper. Doesn't it leave your plastic all scratched and dull looking. Thanks for any help.

I USED RAZOR BLADES TO KIND OF SHAVE DOWN THE OLD DULL PLASTIC. IT HELPS ALOT.YOU NEED A LOT OF SHARP STRAGHT BLADES. GOOD LUCK

I've been trying different stuff all day to get my fenders and tank plastic to shine again. I found that medium grade steel wool takes off the dull outer shell of the plastic, and leaves it shining again. Then I took superfine steel wool to it and it really shines. This is working good on my 225 DR, but it seemed to scratch the plastic up on my Kawi and leave it worse looking than before. Be cautious if you try it and good luck.

I've had good luck sanding plastic starting around 180 and then working my way up to 320 for some most excellent results. LOTS of elbow grease involved. A small jitterbug sander or orbital sander would probably help alot.

try that plastic restore, it comes with different grits of wet sandpaper and the stuff really works, I'm not sure how long it holds up but if you really get it sanded good and a few coats of the gunk it really makes the fender look like new. its 17.00 for the kit but it really worked good for me.

I just did this to my XR and it works realy well (expecialy on white plastic)
Try using Soft Scrub The white gritty stuff. It will clean it up real nice but it will be dull. Then go uver it with pledge. Works great :-D

I heard one time years ago that you could polish your plastic with toothpaste, you never know. ;)

Green scratcher pads wd 40 rub rub rub rub then get steel wool real fine steel wool make sure you get all the wd 40 cleaned off first or itll leave black streaks rub rub rub rub oh yea the green scratcher pads are like what youd find on the back of a dish wash sponge spray wd 40 on plas.rub like a mad man with green pads alot of green pads clean off after rubbing with alcohol then rub plas. with fine steel wool then wax.itll look like this when your done
