I have been wanting to post this and keep forgetting
Anyways, when I bought son's Atc there was only bill-of-sale. I had the guy put his DL on the copy. Besides, he worked for LA County Sheriff and he knew my father retired from Orange County. So, I took it to DMV and the fun began. Well, not really. It was actually pretty easy, this is why I am posting. I made an appointment @ DMV, they had me pay the fees $25 I think. Then had to go to CHP new thing now in California. Made an appointment there, came back, they ran Vin # and Engine #, all clear, went back to DMV and got his green sticker and a week later pink came. I wanted to post this as I have been always worried about that (daughters Atc came with current reg/pink) so, if your wondering and live in California, its not that bad :D

Ride safe!

When I registered my 79 110 last year I didn't have to take it to the CHP.

Well, what they said was, DMV drops all paper work after 10 years if no one registers it annually. This ATC showed no owner. What they were finding out was they were giving out pink slips to stolen bikes, atc, etc. that were reported over the 10 yrs mark. Only way to prevent this is to have CHP do a search on Vin/Engine number. Good thing I guess, if you have something stolen and never found over 10 yrs.

I have a friend who is a sheriffs deputy with San Bernardino County, Chino Hills area. He was able to run my vins from his patrol car & sign off on my paperwork to take to DMV. The paperwork from dmv is available at their website and there are several different ways of getting it signed off without going to CHP.
