I checked dennis kirk and couldnt find any for the trike. So i guess i'll try the honda swap. Does the cable fit the 86 t3 carb?

The 86 250R cable has the carb top on it, so I know it wont work. Ive got a Kawasaki Thumb throttle in good shape you can have for $12 shipped to cont. 48. I think it came off of a Prarie but its exactly the same as the throttle on my friend's T4. If you have a stock carb, Id bet the T4 throttle cable will work, too.

OK I took your advice and went to ebay and bought a 250r thumb throttle and cable. Now your saying that it wont fit? and i should change carbs. Why would you change carbs?. whats wrong with the original carb, and the 250 R wont fit? If it dont Im stuck with a 250 R set up???

i changed the carb for performance. the flatslide is a way better carb. i guess you will just have to wait and see. :(

I don't know the extent of the differences between the 84-85 and the 86-87 but I do know for sure that the TRX250R cable and cap do NOT fit the earlier Tecates, this from my own personal experience.

Hey Basket, yea your right I guess I'll have to wait, but thats not what you said in your fiirst post. You said, that they fit and work great is what you said. But now I will have to wait? i thought you knew what you were talking about? Any way Im stuck with a 250r thumb throttle if it dont work? In my first post i didnt ask about performance, i just want to no where to purchase one. You answered, and now your right, I will have to wait, and see. thanks.

it can be made to fit, all it will take is the correct cable. the 86 250r cable and cap are attached. you can grind the cap off and the cable may fit. if it does not then you will need to buy a pro motion cable with adjustable length. the 85 250r came with a round slide and i think the cable is seperate so that may work for you. i have a 84 250r throttle and cabel for a round slide that i would trade you if yours in in good shape. that may work for you but i do not have a stock tecate carb to test it on. since the 86 tecate did not come with a thumb throttle you will not ever find one "made" to fit it. you have to make it work. dont give up and keep the questions coming. did you get that pipe??????? i have the tracking info if you have not.

I'll try Chris, and see if I can get it to work. i bought an 86 R thumb throttle off of e-bay. It didnt come yet so I dont know much about it. One guy was talking about grinding the cap off, I wont do that unless I have too. I'll see if I can get it to work? No the pipe didnt get here yet. Im waiting.

Thanks

Will the 88 T-4 thumb throttle work on my 86 T-3 ? I have a chance to purchase one. And if anybody needs a thumb throttle for a 250R let me no, I got 2 of them coming from e-bay.
When I was told that the 250R would fit I jumped on one from ebay that had 6 days left on it. (i usally dont do it so quick) So after I bid, I am stuck. (know one went higher) Anyway there was a buy now, going off in 2 hours so I bought that one right away, thinking that in the 6 day period someone would out bid me on the first one. Well guest what? Know one did, and now I have 2 of them on there way. They both are to be in great shape??

88 Tecate-4's had a flat-slide Keihin carb stock. It probably won't work unless you get the carb too. It would be a good up-grade anyway.

I think your best bet at a thumb throttle switch-over is to get the whole throttle off an 87 Tecate-4. If I remember right, they had basically the same round slide mikuni as the 86/87 Tecate 3-Wheelers.

This is just an idea. Buy one and try it at your own risk.

Tim-- I guess I better buy the thumb throttle you have for sale for $12.00. Give me your address, and I get you the money.
