View Full Version : fires, once, maybe twice...then dies (kxt)
Ok, yesterday it fired right up. First real trial ride around the block a few times. Noticed the clutch slipped, so this morning replaced the clutch.
Now it wont run. Fires once, on occasion twice (this is after many many kicks) then dies.
The only changes made yesterday were to the idle adjustment screw. But it ran fine yesterday, started first/second kick.
what gives???

Most all of my 2 strokes are a bear to crank when cold. I put a little gas in the sparkplug hole and they usually fire right up. Without this I think you could kick one of my r's, both z's, and the t-3 all day long and they would not hit a lick. A little shot of gas and they fire right up, usually 2nd or 3rd kick.

Try what he says(gas in cylinder) and if it doesnt work i suggest checkin your spark plug and spark plug wire. (wich are easy to check and replace) The spark plug wire might need to be spliced longer,,,,its happened to me before,,, they seem to wear down with time and reduce spark power.

mine starts on the 1st or 2nd kick. if yours does not then it is time for carb work. have you tried to start yours in neutral? put a NEW plug in and try to start it. let me know what happens and i will see if i can help

Have you checked your coil wire?

More like, check your flywheel magnets.

I'm not sure on your Tecate, but i know my 250R has the idle adjustment on the choke pull, and a pilot screw on the side, but this is beside the point. It sounds like you may have an ignition problem, unless maybe you forgot to use the choke, oops. Check your plug, could be fouled, and check for good spark while you have it out. Aside from one of your ignition components failing (stator assembly, CDI unit, coil, kill switch, yup, kill switch, you would be surprised) you may have disrupted some wiring when changing your clutch, so check for anything you may have damaged or loosened, but I assume all that stuff is all on the opposite side like it is on my R. You could also be having a problem with the carb flooding, cuz maybe your float/needle and seat are sticky,or dirty. Keep that in mind. Last but not least, reed valves could be toast, but I doubt that. Just some things to look into that I came across over the years, hope it helps.

now it sounds like a carb problem (probably mixture or a jet is plugged up)

its an easy fix
I think people more give advise if it happen to them and how they fixed it
throw a new plug in her.drain the float bowl.tow it behind something then drop it in gear it'l start.then ride the crap out of it.pull the choke afew long times wile your hallin butt to help clear the carb.that worked for me alot of times on all kinda bikes.good luck
