I was told my 250es did not have compression when i bought it. But i went out today to look at it and i kicked it over and it had nothing, the piston wasnt moving up and down.....It then "caught" and the piston went up and down, lots of compression cause it was hard to push down. It goes in and out of catching and sliping. Its not stripped on the shaft either. Do you think one of my starter gears inside the case are stuffed? Or maybe my decompression is buggered?
I will try and hook up a battery tomorrow and kick her over with the electric start and see if she runs.
Thanks In Advance,
Matt

there ain't a decompression release device on the es/sx modles matt so it is more then likely a little problem in the kicker gears.

Are you posotive about that becuase mine has a little 5mm copper pipe that goes from somewhere near the kickstart to the top of the head, sort of the same place the decompression is on my 200es??? Maybe its an upgrade for 1987???
Thanks,
Matt

I can tell you with a lot of confidence what the problem is. 99% of the time it is a worn out "One-Way-Clutch" ( Honda calls it a "clutch, Sprag" or "clutch- one way" ). This is a very common problem on the 250cc 3 wheeler motors. I have replaced 15 or 20 of them ( all different machines ). The part is #10 in the picture below.

There have been a few topics on this part going bad. You might want to read a few of these ( save me from typing it all over again ). Here is some of the threads ( Thanks to the forum seach option above ):
