Well, I am in the middle of my rebuild of my 85 Z. I took it down to frame and I have it back to a rolling chasis now. I have bot a new bottom end for it. As I was taking the shifter off of my trike, I noticed that the shifter had been welded on. Does anyone know if a shifter off of another Yamaha ATV will work. (Banshee, Raptor, Warrior, YFZ)? Does anyone have a shifter for sale. I am on a tight budget so be nice... :-D

i think most shifters have the same spline end it just usually the bend of the shifter that has to be right for the crankcases, my tri z was the same as yours, i had a spare honda 250es shifter that fitted straight on, but i wanted it original so i grafted the 250es spline part onto the tri z shifter(welded together) works perfect.
i`d be more worried about the internal shifter shaft that the shifter attaches to, if its been welded then it sounds like it needs replacing, again this is what i had to do, but don`t worry it`s not as expensive a part as you would think, and not too difficult to fit.
good luck. :-D

I have bought a new bottom end that didn't come with a shifter. I was going to use my shifter, but my shifter was welded on by a previous owner. I thought I might could save it, but the splines pretty flat. I keep an eye on Ebay for TRI-Z parts, but shifters don't pop up all of the time. Since there are tons of Banshee parts, I was going to try to put one of those on it.
