top of gas tank leaking???

The top of my gas tank on the 84 bigred is leaking, I tried a new seal on the gas cap and a new gas cap????When the tank is more then 1/2 full and I'm riding the gas leaks out some how between the tank and cap. any ideas

How bad is the lip of the tank dented in?My 200 tank had the same problem and I just bought a different tank.What side is it leaking from?
