I'm having problems with my 2nd gear, and 5th gear. this is on an air-cooled R. when i shift into 2nd gear and try to accelerate it starts clunking and feeling like the chain is slipping, but it's not. 3rd & 4th gear work fine, but when i shift into 5th all of the sudden it feels like i stepped on the brake, and the engine really strains... i really dont know what is or could be causing this, so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
~~~Rich
Sounds like transmission problems to me. If you split the cases, I'll bet the problem will be readily apparent. Look for worn bearings, gears, gear shafts, etc. A good manual will have all the wear limits & tell you what to look for.
Youve got a couple of gears with the side meshing knobs rounded that will need replaced.
As Red Rider said, youll need to go in and do some exploratory surgery.
sounds kinda like you got a missing tooth or maybe two on your 2nd gear, the 5th is kinda odd...
Well i took it all apart... again and all of the gears are in great looking shape, i'll take them apart and put them back together with the manual, and see if it helps at all.
And yea Freaksfix this is the same wheeler, but i didnt want to deal with that tranny so i just got a different one off of someone from the board.
Look closely, not at the teeth on the gears, but the knobs on the sides of the gears where they slide over on the shaft and meet the gears next to them on the same shaft. If they are rounded, even a little bit, it will go into gear, grab, and lock up the gearbox. When my Z, did it, you had to push it backwards to get it to unlock so you could shift it back out of gear.
well i checked everything over today, and it turned out that i was missing a washer on one of the shafts, so i put it on , and now everything works great.
