I'm gonna be doing alot of rough trail riding and jumping this summer and I know the rear shock will not be up to it. So I'm wondering what is the best aftermarket shock for the 85 Tecate and what can be done to stiffen up the front suspension. I'm 120pounds and I'll be running 20 inch rear tires with a stock arm.

It took about a minute. I had read it was gonna be a biotch but it was smooth 8)
I guess we were lucky, but everything is so clean and new that that might of helped.

MHZ,I never get tired of lookin at your tecate. :-D Are you going to clean the motor up? I know that the top end polished to match the powdercoating would look awesome. ;)

Biggreenmachine,I have heard of people using dirtbike shocks on their tecates. It raises the rear end a bit, but I am sure you get a ton of travel.

Maybe a new generation KX shock?

The best thing to do is have your factory KXT shock rebuilt and re-valved to your weight and riding style.

For the forks, build some longer preload spacers out of PVC. Get a size that will just slip into the upper tubes. Try 1" longer. Just remember, the longer you go the tougher it can be to get the fork caps back on. You can also try heavier weight fork oil and/or raise the oil level in the tubes a bit.

Well I redid the Liquid cooling and the Top End. So when the Tecate is done and I start it up we shall see. I plan on taking the Motor to Sumax for them to trick it out. Jug, head, and right side case, with polished Kawasaki letters like on stator cover. But like I said I've lugged this beast around 8 years and I want to just be able to ride it around the yard first. For tempory we will just be cleaning the motor as best we can. Im afraid when we start it for the first time the lower end will blow. Pray for me.

Meat, for the suspension you can try contacting Ron Baker at P.E.P. Ron is the man that used to prep Team Green's bikes in the 80's. He also rebuilt Jmmy Whites ex-factory 86 a while ago.

Ron Baker at P.E.P. 909-590-4111.
