i have a 1985 350x and it runs good but when it is started and runs it makes a ticking noise which is quite loud in the topend. i know this noise cant be a good thing, but what could it be. any info will help also is it pretty easy on putting a new head gasket in the head it leaks and burns it off when it get hot?

It is probably your timing chain, its probably just loose. It shouldnt be that hard to tighten, i have never done it ;)

It is probably your timing chain
...or your valves may need adjusted.

yeah, i'd say its the valves, when the timing chains loose it doesnt make a tickling sound. just tighten your valves

i would say your valves just need adjusted. its not hard to do.

timing chains do kinda tick/ knock, hard to explain the noise, but the 350x has a auto adjuster, so there is no adjusting required, maybe somthing in the adjuster broke, or the chain is that stretched. Could also be a exghaust leek, they somtimes make a ticking noise, but also check the adjustment on the valves like they say.

1.Remove the valve cap thingies.
2.Loosen the rocker arm adjusting lock nut
3.Slip a feeler gauge in there and tighten the inside square adjuster till theres a bit of resistance on the gauge. I think its .003" or something for the adjustment?
4.Tighten the adjustment lock nut.
5.Replace valve cap thingies.

Just make sure that the engine is at top dead center when you start.
