Some one on here or over at .org has a tiger 80 with no motor. Here is a 1986 ktm 80 parts bike. It may be worth an email to see about the motor.

I really want to see one of those things screaming by at 14,000 rpm or whatever scary number they red line at.

the Tiger 80 used a KTM 80 engine, all other tigers had rotax engines.

Dann is right, and the 80 Tiger is mine, Thanks for the info Dann but 200xman sent me the link a few days ago. The guy (with the ktm) said all engine parts are there but cylinder is scared. Im sure I can have it bored or resleeved. Problem is I've e-mailed the guy 2 times asking for his phone # so I can talk to him on the phone and he has not replied. I would love to get the 80 up and running, everything is there on trike, just throw the engine in and shes ready to Roar.

Are the Ktm motors as bad-ass as the original motors?

the ktm motor is the original motor. they used a ktm motor in the trike. all of the other trikes tiger made had rotax motors, just not the 80. if you go to the tiger link on the main page if has a scan of an article with specs on the tiger 80.

Its funny, post after post people just don't get that the Tiger 80 was a converted KTM 80 mini mx-er. They naturally assume it had a ROTAX motor. :D

I also asume the 80 Tiger must be an 86. A guy thats big into KTM Dirtbikes told me that the 80cc ktm dirtbike was built only in 86 and since the 80 Tiger was made from the dirtbike frame it must be an 86.

Pentons and KTMs back in the day (same company) had rotax build the motors for them. KTM is an Austrian company, same as Rotax. When Penton (now KTM) was smaller they used Rotax motors. Not so difficult to figure out, is it?? So, the KTM 80 is most likley in fact a Rotax engine.

Thanks for the history lesson holic. Does that mean that rotax would be able to supply parts for this ?

I just took a look at the Tiger 80 . Man too bad I have never seen a Tiger in real life . Were they really competetive against the big 3 Japaneese companys ? ( I left suzuki out of the equation on purpose due to lack of a 2 stroke 3 wheeler) I wouldnt mind taking that little thing for a spin and I'm 6'4" tall . LOL . Ace

The posts never really seemed to sink in...  Oh well...That ktm looks just like the tiger. I want a KTM now... So that means that little 2 wheeler will slap a 350X around. Does anyone know how rare the KTMS are? thanx

Very, Very rare. I've done a little research and so far 86 seems like the only year the ktm 80 was built. There is a good reason why the KTM 80 dirt bike looks like the Tiger, The Tiger was made from the KTM dirtbike. as far as I can tell they just added a differant swing arm, axle, rear fenders and two tires
