so this thing popped up on craigslist yesterday. I did my best not to call but for 600 bucks I had to. After talking to the seller, I was able to pick it up this afternoon. pretty complete, front reservoir lever is broke, rear res is missing the cap but has rear brakes, rear shock isn't working at all, basically a spring. starts up fine, has a china carb on it, but the airbox and boots there, tank is like new inside, stock exhaust. tires are bald. but the days of 250 dollar 200x trikes are rare. jim

found a front brake lever and a lid for the rear res. so it's got brakes, headlight works, found a decent rear light in the shed. jim

Rear shocks.... the springs and shock is there but there is Zero shock action, can I add air to the reservoir to see if it pumps up? jim

Worth a try, but with no rebound it’s probably empty of oil. What year is the trike? Some shocks have a seal head assembly available, which is a little more straightforward to replace, but still a little bit of effort.

That shock can be rebuilt and it sounds like it needs to be.
That Shrader valve is meant for nitrogen gas which would be added during a rebuild.
But still an awesome find for the money.

Looks like the rebuild seal kit is under $50

And honestly for a low-budget trail rig you can get away with pressurizing it with air, not “ideal” but I’ve used a bicycle shock pump with good results. You could ferry the shock to a shop and they can charge it with Nitrogen, not sure the cost but it may be worth to call around. Good Luck with the project !

hit up ebay, ordered a seat cover, brake cable, bought a used rear shock for 2 bucks. I can rebuild it then swap it, or bolt it in and see if it holds pressure. jim

parts arrived, did the seat cover, why can't some company make 200x seat foams? I filled the missing chunks on my foam, sanded some, covered it in cloth then did the cover. still lumpy but it's covered. the used shock I bought has no shock action. I ended up filling my original with fluid and it's now acting like a shock and hasn't leaked in 3 days. Will rebuild it later, parking brake cable is installed.
Friday, it's getting loaded up for the inspection and get it titled. afterwards, will order new back tires and install the new front tire I have. Found a home made headlight guard, probably install that too. Then to decide keep it or sell it?
Is the 84 and 85 the same? is 1 better than the other? jim

Hi Flite USA lists foam for a 200X on their site. I know that they can also make custom, one off covers and foams if you send them your seat. They are also in Pahrump, Nevada so they're not all that far away from you.

maybe I'll just call them, the 200x seat foam was out of stock when I looked. I have their desert seat on my 185s. jim

1984 & 1985 200X are the same except for color. 1985 had some blue on it where the 1984 had some black on it.

got all the paperwork, inspection and bond for the trike. have to wait until Monday for title and plates.
does the 85 have the same kick start issue as the 83 84 or did they upgrade the spring?

I believe that the spring was updated for 1985.

will probably be posting pics of another new to me 84 200x. Don't need another trike, but the price was good and the title to the trike is still in my name. jim

just picked it back up, 84 200x. I sold it a few months back for 1000 bucks, he's got his eyes on a new project and asked if I wanted it back for 600. He cleaned it up a bit, replaced the rear master, the front brake line leaked so he removed the line and old master cylinder, I'm either going to swap the plastics with my 85, along with the new tires, And the factory 200x carb, put the old parts back on the 84 and sell it.
funny thing, the title is still in my name so I technically bought my own trike!
