I have an 85 Big Red 250ES with a gearshift that will stick in the up and down positions after a shift. When it first happened it would only stick on downshifts, and wouldn't happen all the time. Now it has progressively gotten worse and will stick on up and down shifts, it can be unstuck by lightly tapping down on the pedal or lifting the pedal with my toe. I have read somethings where it sounds like the left side cover can be removed to access a possible broken spring, or loose screws inside the case? Can anyone clarifly this before I tear it down, it's nice to have an idea of what to expect when I get the side cover off. Thanks

A manual is your best friend for working on these old trikes. It sounds like you are on the right path. Purchase a gasket for the left side, you might want to purchase one for the starter gears as well. It will probably be the pin that the spring wraps around that is broken or the fork that turns the shift drum.

Sounds good, manuals are great when working on just about anything.
