Hello all. During the frame-up restomod on my 85 R, I decided to pull the trigger on the WMD wide pegs. I currently weigh 290, but in the not so distant future will be back down to 220. They looked amazing and I was super excited to finally have more support under my feet. Long story short, I was disappointed. Got to ride my fresh bike for all of 5 minutes its first trip out, $185 spent, and my boot had zero chance of fitting between the peg and shift lever (I wear a size 13). I didn't realize how much further forward they extended than OEM. I changed the original shift lever out for a TRX450R unit, but it didn't fair any better. I tried sourcing a longer shift lever, but could only find +4mm and I am also not a fan of the extra leverage placed on the shift shaft with longer units. +4mm wasn't going to cut it anyways.
I decided to design my own offsets. I happened upon a 5/8" steel plate at my old work while visiting one day and they let me have it. I eyeballed what I thought looked reasonable and it ended up being 1 5/8" rearward.

The notched one on the left ended up not being enough to clear the brake pedal pivot, so it underwent a redesign. I hacked off the rearward section of the peg and offset plate and drilled another hole in the peg where the upper footpeg bolt goes. I'll probably end up reformatting it entirely in the future, but it will work for now. I'll follow up with more pics and opinions after I ride it for the first time this weekend. I am hopeful this will make it rideable with these upgraded pegs.

Your pictures aren’t showing. I thought about getting those for my tri z glad I didn’t. Was worried about the same thing. Ended up scoring a nice oem set off eBay.

Rob will always work with you. He made two prototypes for me and one needed changed, 300ex but I gave him the dimensions to mod them for production. The warrior 350 ones he prototype'd me were spot on. You have to understand theres a few guys going above abd byond for us for working with them is the best thing do to do.

Not the same application, but my WMD foot pegs work great on my "83 250R. I also wear size 13.

I never realized he moved them so much further forwards? That kinda sucks, especially for guys with big feet and MX boots.
I guess due to his wider peg he couldn't keep them at the original location, 1.625"s forwards is quite a bit though, that changes how the machine handles when you're standing on the pegs. MX bike pegs are further back than ATC pegs.
You wanted a nice clean look, spacers were the perfect solution. Hope you found some longer 10mm bolts from Honda (probably 15mm longer).
If anyone needs a longer shifter, they can use a 250SX shifter, or any steel shift or brake lever can be extended easily.
I wouldn't lose sleep over the extra leverage, the drum rotation is limited with stoppers in the engine cases.
That's why people can use suicide shifters without damaging the shifting drum or forks.
Although, with those being 2 feet tall, that's allot for the shift shaft itself to have to deal with unless there's an intermediate shaft...

Update. The pegs ended up being in the perfect position with the new spacers. I guess the old eyeball measurement did the trick. No pictures at the moment. I'm sure there will be some criticism with the right side peg. There was quite a bit of "modification" required on that side. I'll mostly be riding in the dunes, so they will still be plenty sturdy. I'm too old and heavy for any motocross or GNCC style riding.
As far as the forward vs. rearward point, the center of the peg is the same as the center of the stock one as far as I can tell. He is spot on there. The WMD is just wider in both directions. They are much more in line with the swingarm pivot bolt now. Much more like an MX bike. My wingspan is pretty wide, so I feel like it will open up the rider triangle a bit. That will also be nice.
I ended up just buying some Dorman grade 10.8 zinc plated M10 - 1.25 x 50mm from my local auto parts store. They have similar flanges and are slightly more gold in color. They did the trick. I'm excited to see how everything performs. Next trip is the first weekend in February.
