Does anyone know if the 250R frame specific to the atc or was it adapted from a bike. Thanks.

Each of the 3 generations are unique to themselves and do not come from a bike frame, although there are some similarities and borrowed technology - they're not interchangeable.

There are some differences between the specific years of each generations (81-82, 83-84, 85-86) however they're basically all compatible within their own generations.
