1978 Atc 90 low range problem

How's it going guys I just got a 78 ATC 90 and got it up and running, while trying to test low range to see if it would work it just grinds when you try to shift it into gear. I have a 110 and am aware sometimes you don't fully click the lever in place but this is not the case with the 90.

What do you believe the problem could be?

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Been a long time but did you take the hi lo lever housing apart to see it all is well in there ?

Sorry for the delay, I did not take the cover off yet. I will within a few weeks when I do have time to getting around to it.
