I have a friend that is the manager for a polaris dealership...He has offered me one of their snowmobile engines for my extra frame....1200cc or an 800cc...They are the used engines out of their race sleds with about 10hrs on them...I think that is what they were...I know it wont be easy but my biggest concern is fabing a belt drive system and getting the damn thing to stop...Any thinkers in here????

I think your in for a big project.. lol
Its been done to 250Rs Ive seen, but I havent seen a Tri Z crankenstien yet. That would be a killer drag machine though. Most people convert them to chain as the final drive...

He was saying that the Victory belt sprocket might work...I dont know though..We are still in the thinking stage..LOL

I was gonna build a little buggy a while back with a snowmobile motor. I couldnt find a decent motor for a cheap price though, so changed my plans.

I dont know anything about snowmobiles....How many horsepower do these things have????? Could I pump up my Z motor and have the same???

Depends on what it is, two stroke or four. Some of these 800cc two strokers make over 100 hp stock so it would take alot of pumping to get the triz up there.

I beleive they are both 2 strokes...Thats alot of HP's!!!!

Well thats a good guess, the Polaris site doesnt show hp figures but the Arctic Cat site shows their 700cc as 140hp.

I would just try to make a drive sproket for the sled motor so it would be chain drive. I have a sled motor conversion project right now my friend and I are putting a extra motor of his into a golfcart but we have had some problems finding a cart but from the ones we have looked at the motor shouldn't be to hard to put in all im going to do is make some motor mounts and throttle linkage and some other stuff. It should be sweet if we ever get around to doing all this.

Here's a link to a motorcycle powered by a snowmobile engine. I've always thought it would be pretty cool to do a trike in a similar fashion, if time and money was no object.

That sled motor will be putting out a lot of HP, my MXZ 670 ho is pushing 140hp, and my 583 is putting 110hp, so if you have a 1000, or 1200 you will be way up there.
We made a set up in a go cart, your best plan is to use the primary clutch on the motor, set up a secondary, and on that same shaft have the front chain sproket, and then run that to your axle, we couldn;t even clock this go cart it flew, and would smoke my 350x when we tried to race

Yea It will be a scary ride
You wouldnt happen to have any pics of that set up would you...I have no idea what I am dealing with..I only hope my buddy does...
Pics of the go cart would be cool as well... :-D :-D :-D

hey man we didn;t take any pics of the go cart, and we sold it for alot of money, we are now making my one sled into a quad, taking the ski;s off putting tires on it, and taking the trake and sliders off and putting in a axel, it will be fast after we gear it right
Here is a pic i just drew i know it sucks but it is how we did it

that was a very cool video....I dont think he was on it all the way though...Looks like he was trying to pop a wheelie all the way up...I was talking to the friend that has the engine and he made a mistake....It is a 340 and not a 800...Big difference!!!! We still want to do it though...Hell the frame has already been repaired so I am not worried about cutting it at all...

i say you try it

Yeah he was definately taking it easy. A 340 will still put out nice power but won't be nearly as wild as an 800. What kind of race sleds are the motors out of? Snowcross or drag racers?
