After about a year of no trikes in my life, I traded my beater xr350 for an 85 BR. Time for some good year rawhide 3s, and new plastics. Not sure if I want big green or blue. Glad to finally be back. Hopefully my nice 83 185s comes back to me soon too... it went to a member here.

Anyways, what do you guys think about rawhides? Or argo style tires? I had a set on a 82 br, thing rode pretty good and had good traction on wet/soft ground.

There are way better tires options today unless you are going for the vintage look.

Ouch!

That's my first thought, or rather, my back's.

I've got an old pair that I've had on various things over the years. Last was use on a riding mower sans deck, that is a dedicated yard cart puller. They worked great on it, especially in the snow.

I certainly wouldn't use anything that heavy and stiff on a trike unless it was pretty much being used as a agricultural tractor and nothing else. In muddy fields they work well. I've used some other brands of agri tires, like the straight bar chevron type, only because that's all the local farm store had. Not by choice.

Are Rawhide IIIs even available new anymore?

I did a restoration on my 185s and was looking for those tires but goodyear no longer makes them. So it appears that Carlisle purchased or took over the design and call it the AT101. They are 4 ply now instead of 2 so they are a little stiffer but if you air them down to .5 lbs they are ok. Here is a photo.269829

I'm gonna use them for snow and utility use. I have a set of knobbies to use for trails. I do really like the old school lookof them.
