Just bought a 1980 Atc 110. I rode it around and it ran and drove great didn't get on the throttle to much because the tires were very low on air and it was my first time riding a three wheeler. I purchased it and when I got it home I drove it around the neighbor hood and notice a lean condition at full throttle. so I took the carb off and took some berryman chemtool and sprayed through passage ways and what not. However when I reinstalled it later I would rev it and it would bog, then I would lift and it would shoot out soot. Now, I know the difference between oil smoke and fuel smoke. This thing smells like fuel and is bellowing black smoke. Let me tell you what I have done to try fix it. I have, taken apart and cleaned out the carb about 4 times, looked into to timing, point gap, valve timing, and chain tension, replaced intake o-rings and gaskets, and cleaned out the airfilter. But I noticed something. If I turned off the fuel valve the idle would come up and it would rev cleanly, it would still bog nut not as badly or smoke. That being said I ordered a rebuild kit with a new needle. And today I had replaced it and nada. Nothing changed, so I decided to try something radical. I bent the plastic tang in the float so the that the needle would close sooner, Because before It would barely idle and you had to rev it to clean it out to get to idle again, by then cycle repeats. The result I got was a moderately rich 0-35% throttle.Still slight soot blowing sometimes. Anything after that 35-50% range it falls right on its face with a lean bog. Also should mention it has stock 85 jets and has a pressfit pilot jet. Also worth mentioning, that I am unable to run any sort of wire through the pilot jet. However I read that many you can stick something all the way through and some you cannot. Also I replaced all gaskets besides the bowl gasket because it looked good an was not crushed. And one last thing, if you turn on the choke and rev it does not "soot bog". I'm 16 and just spent 1200 on a poopy 3 wheeler, so anything helps. Thanks.:(
So to recap:

runs rich at bottom end
Runs lean at 50-100% throttle
Played with the needle jet adjustment nothing helps
