1986 Honda big red 250es kick start problems

Picked up my second big red 250 and thought the one way bearing was shot because it would start with the button,but nothing at the kicker.Pulled the side cover and the previous owner has been in there.Was missing the outer thrust washer on the kicker shaft and things seem to have slipped out of place.Is there a trick to getting the kicker shaft spring in place and pre-loaded?Thanks to any of the experts that might respond.

Thanks deejaycee,but i have a understanding of the one way bearing and clutch packs.My problem is with the kicker assembly.I'm having trouble engaging the spring tang and preloading the kicker.Not sure if the spring has been bent slightly from previous owners screw up?I have replaced other kicker springs in other bikes,but this one seems tight and awkward.Not sure if i have to have the clutch pack off to get in there better?
