I've been looking for a 200x to make a auto x. guy at a yard sale had one for sale. its a total pile. he's dropping it off in a few.
pros. both brakes work
engine has good compression when kicking it
has good front wheel but tires junk.
tank is good and has a cap but painted
bearings seems good
wiring all there
original carb
handlebar controls all look good
the bad. some quad rear tires and hubs
no plastics
home made seat pan with factory brackets
no airbox or boot
no headlight
rigged exhaust.
if I get a 200x I'm going to want clean plastics and a new seat.
pics coming tomorrow. jim

That rear rack looks like it's off of an early-mid 90's Polaris 350L or 400L

ETA: Nevermind, I was wrong....:(

it had a weak spark last night. can't get a spark today, the harness is a mess. extra wires been added for the lights. pulse generator is at 100 ohms, stator was at 600 ohms. tried a couple different coils. jim

It's a good start! You'll have it running in no time. I would love to find one and build an autoX but they are seldom found here nowadays.
Take care

I went and watched mrcbuilds video again, double checked the electronics and changed the pulse generator. checking spark with 2 new ngk plugs and didn't see a spark. stuck the old champion plug on the wire and saw a spark. stuck it in the motor and it fired right up!. jim

installed a petcock in the tank, so carb has fresh gas. installed a new plug just to see and it started right up!
now to start a list and hit eBay. bolt on air cleaner, front tire and I can ride the trike. jim

Looks like a great start. I can't find a decent 200X within a reasonable distance. I don't have spare days to spend driving to get a good one.

2 months ago there was a decent looking 200x for $1500. wife said if I wanted it, here's $1300 you pay the rest or negotiate it to 1300 bucks. well the trike sold before I could get it. So this will be the next best thing.
running 200x $200 bucks
will order a new front tire and air filter for 100 bucks?
I've got new 22x11x8s on 200s wheels and hubs
so I may come out ahead with this trike. jim

little progress, picking up a factory exhaust this afternoon to replace what looks like a china 110 quad exhaust on the thing. trikes loaded into the truck so I can run it to the dmv Tuesday for a bonded title. Then I can start swapping parts. I can't see dumping money into it until name is on the title. jim

went and grabbed the stock exhaust and seat from my buddy Jacob who's another local 3 wheeler nut. I just bought a seat pan off ebay but he had one in good shape I decided to grab it along with the exhaust. he threw in a 185 header with a super Trapp muffler. so that might end up on the other suspended 185s project.
so parts are getting collected, parts should be showing up later this week, hopefully I'll have it titled then I can start throwing parts on it. jim

quick update, dmv went smooth, got the paperwork done, bought the bond, just have to go back and get the title tomorrow. Front tires supposed to be delivered tomorrow too. jim

installed a 200x exhaust, got the brackets on the seat. seat cover due next week. new front tire installed, scoops installed. painted the strange rear plastics, might pull the 350x fender off my 200s or use a early 185s front fender and call it roadkill good.
Oops, going to swap the rear hubs and install a pair of 22x11x8 knobbies I bought new a few months ago. jim

Jim mac

185s front fender installed, new hubs and rear tires. it's homely looking but working, that's what counts. I've got a 125m headlight I'll probably install for the time being. seat cover will be here next week. then to decide wh
either new plastics are in the cards. jim

success! took it for its maiden voyage around the neighborhood. shifts fine, runs fine!. I guess that means a new set of fenders will be ordered. might as well make this my keeper, so it deserves to look good. threw a 200s up for sale to help pay for the plastics. jim

I build in stages too.
1. buy the bike
2. get legal stuff squared away
3. get it running
4. make a real parts list
5. complete the build and enjoy.

Jim mac

yep! I do my hotrods the same way. build each sub assembly and before you know it your blasting down the road shifting gears!. jim

Jim mac

now the hardest part, convincing myself it's a good idea to spend the $$$ on fenders. about 500 bucks for fenders and scoops, then there's the missing headlight, so 100 bucks for a number plate. jim

new seat cover installed Saturday. found a set of used maier fender set on ebay for 220. Not cracked, decent, trikes not a show trike so I went for it. jim

my wife thought I was a idiot to buy the project. doing some horse trading and got a aftermarket grab bar and 200x hubs coming. I've got a set of itp rims for the correct hubs.
probably just order a 10 dollar oval number plate to cover the front. jim

ebay fenders showed up and installed. trikes getting more complete, buddy has a 250r headlight he's suppose to donate. jim

okay, this is getting stupid again! but in a good way! jim flight of Phoenix texted me a ad for a 200x for sale in wickenburg Arizona. they had it listed as a 87 200s, pic showed a 1st gen 200x, seller said it was listed wrong it's actually a 84 200s. Anyway it's a 1st gen 200x jim didn't or couldn't get it, im looking for a stock headlight, air box and tube plus misc stuff for my 200x from the original post. so I contacted her and decided to make the 390 mile round trip today. 300 for the trike 90 for gas and snacks and it's home! plans already changed, im going to throw a set of rings in the motor and put it back together. tanks beautiful! it seems to be all there, ive got a box of parts bagged so this is my next trike. of the motor turns out toast, ive got a few spare 185 200s motors to turn it into a auto x. jim

put the ring in the cylinder and measured. 024 gap the 2nd ring looked larger and the oil rings basically had no spring tension. the good news, all the bits and pieces looks to be packaged in the box. jim

I have so much going on in life and busy work that I couldn't go after it. I texted it to you as we have to keep an eye out for each other in this hobby. I was so glad you could grab it! Its a deal! You have to keep me updated on that build. I did score some ITP 8x8 4/110 +3/5 and 400ex hubs of Offerup this weekend. I am excited by that to widen my track.

went and honed the cylinder, tore down the heads, lapped the valves, waiting for the seals to show up so I can put the head back together. pulled the oil rings off the piston and they almost fell thru the cylinder. jim

Jim mac

you know you've been around this stuff too long when you buy a 300 dollar basket case, and you put new rings on the piston and you bolt it all back together in a hour and you don't have any left over parts! and the crazy thing, I didn't take it apart! it was bought with a box of parts!
I'm thinking I'm over the worst of this covid so if all goes well, I'll be bolting the motor back into the trike tomorrow. jim

Jim mac

here's a pic of the latest trike.
300 for the basket case
100 for gas and snacks to buy it 6hrs drive
75 rings, gaskets, hone
25 front master cylinder
It came with a headlight and guard, I swapped the headlight over to my other 200x that has a title.
trike came with 2 8 inch and 2 9 inch rims.
I've got 2 new 20x11x9 tires I'm going to install on it. right now there's 1 8 and 1 9 inch tire.
took it for a spin this morning, shifts good, both brakes works. Also has a super Trapp exh.
one other thing, I have to find my thumb throttle and get rid of the twist throttle.
but I'm happy to have a running 200x for 500 bucks. jim

I'm glad you sent me the ad for this trike. if I didn't have the day off that Wednesday, I wouldn't have bothered to make the call. I sent a pic and video to the lady that sold it, she was happy to hear it's driving. jim

a little followup. trike #1 is giving me intermittent spark issues. going to buy a new champion plug tomorrow. those ebay ngk plugs aren't firing consistently, the used champion plug sparks decent.
the 2nd 200x runs and starts fine all the time so I had a little time off this afternoon and went and got the paperwork for a bonded title. Going to put all the nice parts on trike 2, tires, plastics, headlight, seat tail light etc.
trike 1? I've checked stuff, going to try the plug then if it still has issues, ill replace the stator. If the trike makes mad enough, there's a running 185s I can use to turn the 200x into a auto x. jim

I posted a follow up in another post. turned out to be a weak stator, installed a new stator and it's running fine now! So 2 titled 84 200x trikes running. I used 20-11x9 rear tires on one and 22-11x8 on the second with aluminum wheels. when I get the cars moved out of the way, I'll get pics of them together. jim

update. trike 2, the one that was a basketcase, took it out for its maiden voyage today. put about a hour seat time and it worked great. it's got a twist throttle which I really didn't like but we rode dirt roads so it wasn't bad. carb doesn't have a smooth idle, ive got a 223 cycle rebuild kit to install. jim
