I noticed a really loud ticking and had some maintenance in the crankcase anyway so i decided to pull the headcover and side off to replace one way bearing, new clutch, and new timing chain. Got everything back together after replacing the original loose chain, verified my tensioner was working, and adjusted the valves how the manual states. And STILL have a very noticeable tick sound from right at the top of the motor.

Chain was nice and snug, no noticeable wear inside the head cover except for a very slight scaring under one rocker arm that my finger nail couldnt feel so i figured it was good to run. Should I try to adjust valves slightly tighter than .003? bad valves and rockers? bad cam? what do you guys think? still has good compression and runs/idles great.

Tensioner probably isn’t holding while running .

Just put the motor to TDC and noticed both rockers had crazy amount of slack. Reset to .002 and fired up smooth quiet like a brand new engine. Now im wondering if i had the correct TDC stroke the first time..oh well all good now probably for another 30+ years
