I just got an ‘85 tri-z. It was running fine then started slowing down. Finally shut off. Had to get a strap and tow it back to the truck. Pulled the fuel line coming off the pump and kicked it over. Fuel trickled out. I did order a rebuild kit for it. I’m wondering if anyone knows about the top mounted tanks. I’m wanting one for it. If anyone has any suggestions or a better pump for these please let me know

Are you still using a stock carburetor? If you are then rebuilding your pump and making sure none of the lines are blocked or leaking should fix you right up. Make sure your petcock is also clean and that there’s no crud in your float bowl as well.
If you have put a Keihin carburetor on it and that carburetor is not from a snowmobile that used a pressurize fuel system then you would do well to get a top mount tank as the combination of the large fuel orifice on the gravity fed carb combined with a pump will intermittently force the needle of the seat and overflow the carb.
I have one of the last ones Swinehart made before he passed. It’s dull white (he said it was paintable) and I have a new Banshee cap that has been modified to fit. Petcock is included with the tank, everything is new and unused. PM me if it’s something you need as I plan to build a metal one someday.
