Hello, guys new here. Recently dug my Dad's 86 ATC 200x out of the shed, it's been sitting for 30 years. Me and him got it fired up pretty easily, cleaned the absolutely filthy carb out, changed the oil, rigged up a fuel system, and the old Honda took off.

Now it's not in the best shape cosmetically and we want to get it as close to looking like new as possible, hoping to get some recomendations on basically everything except the plastic as it's in good shape. Only a couple cracks, one in the head light bezel where it bolts on and right in the middle of the rear fender.

On to the shopping list,

Gas tank, it's filthy inside. I'm afraid when we get it cleaned out that it will leak. Dad doesn't seem to think so, but I want to have a plan for the worst. Anyone make tanks to fit an 86 ATC 200x, plastic or metal? Can't find a metal or plastic one anywhere, atleast for 86-87 models.

Stickers, already found a thread on here recommending Blueline Decals/Stickers. I checked out their website, looked pretty nice. Any other insight on them?

Shock boots, grips, and rubbers, I found some shock boots on amazon but was told by a guy on another forum they aren't always the best fit. (He also recomended me to 3wheeler world, big thanks to him) Grips and rubbers I can't find anywhere. Aftermarket grips wouldn't bother me, but looking completely original would be cool. All the little rubber stoppers that the plastic bumps agaisnt are beyond dry rotted.

Seat, plastic that the foam and seat cover staple to is in fair/good shape. Foam and seat cover are destroyed. I found a few options on ebay, but before I dive in, I wanted some reviews from people with experience with them or other better recomendations.

Paint for the frame, anyone know what off the shelf can matches that color red perfectly?

Thanks for the help.

Welcome to 3WW
Sounds like a good project.

OEM tanks are the only ones available for this model and they are getting expensive. The last two nice ones I sold went for over 500 each. So hopefully the one you have does not leak. Blast it with the hose to get any loose stuff out of there, then it dry in the sun. Go to home depot and get some kleen strip phosphoric etch. Dump it in there and and keep rotating the tank for a few hours, Agitate it a little evey now and then. Then dump it out into a bucket and rinse out the tank with the hose again. Then dump some acetone in there and swish it around. Then dump that out and take some fresh gas swish it around. Should be pretty clean by now. Put some more gas in it and see if it leaks.

For the decals, Blueline is where to get them. Bruce's decals are great and he comes highly recommended from most everyone on here.

Fork boots. ATC007 on here was making reproductions that seem pretty nice. I don't own a set but others here can probably speak for them. OEM boots will set you back a few hundred bucks if you can find them.

The grips are still availble from Honda. The seat rubber, some are available from Honda. Whatever is not, Shep1970 on here can help you.
For the seat foam, you can get it from Hi-Flite but usually only their seat covers fit their foam, so you would need to get both from them. Keep in mind, if you send them your seat pan, they can install the seat cover for an extra $35.00. If yout want an OEM style cover, you can get one from Pit Replica on ebay, but you'll have to probably trim the hi-flite foam because it is not exactly the same as the OEM foam.

For the frame, if you want powdercoat, then Columbia Coatings - Super Mirror Red is an exact match. If you are wanting to rattle can it, then get some Rustoleum Sunrise Red. It is a little darker red but it is a pretty close match. If you want something that is more of a perfect match, you can take a piece like one of the motor mounts into any automotive paint store, they will scan the red color and mix you up a couple cans.

Hope some of this helps.
Good luck.

Definitly helps, thanks alot.

I cleaned the worst out of the gas tank today. Couldn't quite get to the deepest parts but I got the worst of it out. Soaking it some more over night and try again tommorow, I used a pressure washer with a really wide fan nozzle on it. Worked wonders for the areas I could get to. But the areas I couldn't get to are what concern me the most. Fingers crossed it's good everywhere.
