Does anyone know if an engine from a 1986 TRX125 will bolt up to a 1985 ATC110 frame. My goal is to get a 1986/87 ATC125M since it has electric start and reverse, but they seem near impossible to come by. I’m wondering if I could accomplish the same thing with installing a TRX125 engine into the 110 that I already have that doesn’t run. If I can’t do that, has anyone ever put a 1986/87 TRX125 into a 84/85 ATC125M. If so, I’m pretty sure I can find an older ATC125M. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Those motors are worlds apart, and you would need to do extensive fabrication and modification to make that work.
For starters, the 110 motors are lay down (horizontal) motors, while the 86-87 125 are vertical.

If you looking to put a motor in a 110 frame, you might look into Chinese pitbike motors.
You can surely find one that has e-start. Not sure about the reverse though.

Good luck!

Thanks for the response. The engines in the 86 TRX125 are horizontal like the 84 and 85 ATC125M but not identical I assume since the TRX125 has reverse. This would be a horizontal to horizontal swap, but it just seems like this would be a popular swap if it were really possible and I can’t really find much info on it. It would basically give the ATC110 the advantages of the popular 86’/87’ ATC125M aside from the additional power from the vertical engine. I’ve got a junk ATC110 and found a TRX125 for sale fairly cheap nearby, so I’m trying to figure out if this is a reasonable swap or not.

I have a buddy that put an ATC110 engine in a TRX125, it was a bolt in affair. Some 125 engines do have shifting issues though and the parts to fix it are expensive, if you can even find them. That was the reason he swapped motors.

85-6 engines are lay down 87-8 TRX 125 are vertical

Bob, there should be minimal issues with swapping that engine. I would try and use the stock exhaust from quad, or at least the head pipe as exhaust ports exit at different angles
