I got my 85 BigRed 250es home from my lease and spent most of the day cleaning the carb/soaking it and cleaning/rebuilding the fuel petcock. New battery and viola she runs.
Took the kiddos for a short ride, then hit a neighborhood trail for 15 min or so and back home for a bath. Washed up the bike then went in for dinner. Came out an hour or so later and its raining,
rain stopped and I went to start the bike. Key on, in N, hit the start button and the engine spun but made a strange noise, like maybe the starter hung? clunk type noise. tried again and no luck.
Tried to kick start her and wont budge. Pushed the bike into the garage. Searched the forums. Shifts into 1st, rolls backwards easy, wheels wont roll forward. eng wont turn over with either
electric or kick start.

I read about a R side cover being removed to check for a bearing?

Help point me in the right direction guys.....

Did you shut off the petcock after you were done riding it? My first guess would be that, for some reason, your piston was down and the cylinder filled with gas. As in maybe your float stuck open and it let gas through the carb into your engine. I'm not sure if that could happen or not. Try pulling out the spark plug and turning the engine over. Then let us know what happens. If it was just running great, I doubt that there could be water from the washing in the cylinder.

I did close the fuel when I was done. I also tried to pull the plug and see if the engine will spin over. No luck. I removed the starter gear cover and inspected the gears for missing/damaged teeth (thinking a tooth broke and lodged between the stator and flywheel jamming the engine) and found none. I filled the cylinder with marvel mystery oil and let it sit overnight, engine still wont kick over. Put trans in 5th and rear wheels just slide when rolled fwd. rolls backwards no problem. As this point Im pretty sure I need to get into the engine.

did you check to make sure there's oil in the crankcase before you took it for a spin? jim
