I picked up a 83 Yamaha that I assume is a 225 was told it was a 125 (kinda knew better) but I have no clue what it is other than a 83 only reason I know it's a 83 is because the sticker is kinda still there that's all I know has front and back suspension so far as I know it cant be a 125 because those were solid frames and its shaft drive again not a 125 trait I'm aware of its rough crankcase says 1500cm my assumption is that means it's a 150 may qualify as 175 but the vin on frame and motor match 29u-001229 has electric start and pull start but that's all I know was told it needed a cdi box pull cord gone not a clue about the electrical system yet but it was basically free can anyone help me out on this thing? Guess I can't post a pic of it yet newb status

Exhibit A 200

266327

Exhibit B 225

266328

Which one looks more like yours?

1500cc (1.5 liters) is your crankcase oil volume. The CC of most engines is cast into the cylinder near the bottom. The CC is usually a couple less than the advertised CC’s.

Definitely looks like b I couldn't see any casting numbers on the cylinder

Probably on either the carb side or the pipe side of the cylinder. Will probably say 196 or 198cc.

Doesn’t matter. All the shaft drive 200’s we’re almost identical regardless of year.

It’s not a racer, but not it’s not a toy either. They’re light on the front. Respect it till you get some seat time in.

The 225s have pretty good torque down low, but kind of lack at high RPMs from what I remember.
