Hey all, first post. Grew up on an ‘85 250sx and finally found a guy who had 30+ trikes and bought an ‘85 and ‘86 250sx from him—a real great guy.

They’re in great condition, but that being said what are some things I should check and/or replace and/or upgrade? I’d like them to last awhile!

No cracked plastics, no dents in the ‘86 gas tank. ‘85 gas tank has a very small dent and could use just a little paint touch up to prevent rust—any ideas of what I should put on it for now?

The ‘85’s carb isn’t performing optimally, and I also ordered new throttle and choke cables. For some reason after riding for awhile when you come to a stop the RPMS suddenly climb to the point where I wouldn’t dare shift into first for fear of getting bucked off—what might be causing this? What’s a standard carburetor tune? The air-fuel mixture screw seems very far out, and she does backfire sometimes when shutting her off so I feel it’s running rich. But this wouldn’t cause the sudden increase in RPMs, would it?

Enough for now, look forward to the replies!

Clean the carb, and check the valves.9 out of 10times my carb problem is really a valve adjustment.

Mrc.
P.s. I think the 250sx is the best all round 3 wheeler ever made. I have an 85 sx.

Nice looking machines! And i second the carb cleaning and valve adjustment. The slide or needle could be sticking not allowing it to drop back down to idle, sure it could be the cable also, but the fact that the screw is out a ways makes me think someone was trying to compensate for a clogged yet also. Best bet, tear it down, thoroughly clean it, and put a good rebuild kit in it. I prefer the Shindy kit's, they are the closest to original made right now, and well worth the $20ish dollar investment, depending on where you buy it the price varies.

Other then that, oil changes, and maintenance, these old Honda's keep on going! And Welcome to the site!

I checked the oil and diff fluid and they’re perfect. But I was planning on rebuilding the carb—you suggest the shindy rebuild kit? Gotcha.

Nice find! My uncle had an 86 years ago, I spent a lot of time on it and had a blast.
