I just rebuilt my 84 KXT 250. It has a pipe and silencer, 34mm carb with a UNI pod filter. The jetting is 210 main, and 45 pilot. the engine starts right up but loads up and has poor throttle response in the low rpm range. What should I do? Should I rejet? If so, what size jets should I go to?

MY PAST EXPERINCE WITH CARBS IS WHEN YOU BOG DOWN LIKE THAT YOU NEED TO RAISE OR LOWER THE NEEDLE WITH A SHIM. I DO BELIEVE YOU WANT TO RAISE IT,

How did the bike run before you rebuilt it? Did it load up and have poor throttle response then also? Unless you made significant changes (different pipe, carburetor, airfilter) during the rebuild, the jetting shouldn't need to be changed.
Chuck, raising the clip & lowering the needle will lean out the fuel/air mixture, which will make throttle response more crisp.

I dont know how the bike ran before I got it, it was torn apart. I tried lowering the needle to lean it out, i dont see much of a change. My 87' Tecate has a 270 main jet stock, the 84' has a 210 main with a pipe, silencer, and UNI pod filter????? Does that seem a little small? The pilot in the 87' is 35 while the pilot jet in the 84' is 45.

Sounds real lean to me. Does it smoke excessively? Try to lower the idle down until it dies, real slowly. What does it do. If it seams to stay there, and jump around then die, its lean. If it seems to load up slowly and slow down, it is rich. Also, lower the idle a bit, and turn off the gas. If the throttle increases a lot, then its rich, indicating that the idle has to be turned up to let more air in for the fuel. If it doesn't do much, and dies, it is either lean, or it is close. It should rev up a couple hundred rpm, then die.

Check BikeBandit.com and see what the stock jetting was, that should hopefully help you in the right dirction.
