got a split rim for my 185s. The rims are old and crusty. is it worth putting new tubes with new tires? jim

I had tubes on my 125 when I got it and took them out right away. Took the time to drill wire brush them all inside and out ( the two halves) painted them , bought new valve stems and gaskets and good as new. I’d rather patch a tire then take the rim off and split it to change a tube

Second. Plugs over having to break down a tire to patch a tube.

Tubes are kind of expensive too.

New O-rings are still available. If they're super crusty, clean, paint, then slather some sealer between the halves (and O-ring) before bolting together.

I like the look of the split rims. They're cleaner looking because they don't have any other contours between the bead and hub. Newer tire beads are technically incorrect for them, but I haven't had a problem with a bead unseating at the 2.2psi recomended. There is no bead lip on the inside, like the single piece rims.
