Hey guys not sure if this site is very active anymore but I’m having a hard time finding information on these.

1982 (CDI) 110 started with no Spark at all. Had some leaks and needed a front sprocket so I pulled the engine and tore it down to repair. Set valves, Pulse generator air gap, checked pulse generator timing, pin on camshaft was a little past 12 o’clock at F mark on flywheel (read somewhere that it should be closer to 11 o’clock) pulled flywheel to inspect woodruff key, all looked fine but there was lots of dirt and some metal shavings in the flywheel. Cleaned out, cleaned stator and reinstalled. Got it back together and it started to spark blue but it was weak and intermittent (every 5 pulls or so) stator passes every resistance test I could find (200 ohms on black wire and 1.1 on yellow) tried 5 different ignition coils that all passed resistance test. Installed a new CDI unit, still nothing. I have no power coming from black stator wire to CDI unit plug and no power to ignition coil. Kill switch has been both tested and eliminated. New plug, continuity through plug cap and wire. Engine is properly grounded to frame. Now it doesn’t even spark intermittently anymore. Any ideas here? If the timing was off by one tooth (retarded) would that be enough to cause this? Or are there any other ways to test the stator? Harness appears to be fine, fixed a few breaks and even tried another harness. Pulling my hair out here. Thanks in advance

Update , found that cam gear was put in backwards by the previous owner. Flipped it and reset timing/air gap and I got spark for about 4 or 5 pulls and now I’m back to no spark again

If you don't have AC current from the stator, you have to sort that out first. Resistance test aren't as reliable as voltage for stator coils. Resistance can meet specs, but there can still be a breakdown inside of it, causing an internal short when asked to produce current.

Search for what the typical voltage is on a 110 stator while cranking. I don't know, or I'd post it. The pulse coil also produces voltage, that's how it triggers the CDI. I don't know what that would be on a 110 either, you'll just have to wait for someone to chime in or find the information out there somewhere.

New parts = Never Even Worked

Where did you get the 'new' CDI and is it OEM? I've gotten too many new parts that were bad, to ever trust that new means working, that includes CDIs. That's why if you have something that's running good, then is the time to fart with buying cheap Chinese CDIs. Put it on, run it...good...you now have a known functioning spare if problems show up.

I now have 3-4 volts coming from black stator wire while pulling. And only 1 volt going to ignition coil

New CDI is Ching Chong but I’m still using my Honda one just to diagnose I have 2 of them here

Too many hands were on this before me, turns out someone had a stator from an older (points) 110 installed on this one. Bought a new exciter coil from Kimpex (225151) soldered it in and it solved all my issues! Thing runs perfect, just need to figure out a high idle issue now!

Right on! Thanks for posting the follow up.

It's just so difficult for anyone online to help diagnose problems with these, for the reason you mentioned, too many hands beforehand.

There is really no telling what's going on in something until it's opened up. Everything else is just magic eight ball answers.
