250r triples on an 86x

Anyone recommend it. Feel like I am sitting down hill after I put new stock size rear tires on. These forks are pretty shot originals. All the way up in the triple clamp.

I might add that I wanted more clearance and want to go back to stock gearing. I once ran 18" tires.The new rears are the same measurements except they are 1 inch wider. The front forks have never had a second of maintenance. Anyways I just feel like it's jacked up to high in the rear now when I am riding and the shock is set to a hard setting. Never messed with the spanner nuts either.
I was riding about 15 mph a while ago and hit the top of a rock sticking out of the ground about four inches. The forks made a weird noise and made me want much better ones because it was pretty harsh and didn't expect that jolt. Can't remember that reaction from the front suspension in the past. Haven't messed with the air pressure in the forks if that is what those Schrader valves are for, can't remember.

Setting the rear sag and rebuilding the front forks will likely make a huge difference. The front springs may need replacement. Measure the length to see if they are in spec. New bushings, seals, and oil will make a tremendous difference if everything in there is original. Rear sag should be about 1/3rd of the total travel. Adjust the spring preload accordingly. And make sure the fork tubes are set correctly in the triples.

I'm assuming you mean the 86 200X in the picture and a 3rd gen 250R front end?? 39mm forks.

The 250R forks have rake bored into them and that probably won't help the handling very much.

I've used a 350X front end on my 200X and it handles great, allot of guys run the 350X fronts on the 2nd gen 200X and it seems to work great.

You'll be gaining 35mm forks rather than the 33mm you have now...

Can anyone tell me the original sprocket size for front and rear of the 86 200x? I looked through the manual again and don't see it yet. I changed sprockets and ran 18 inch tires years ago and don't remember. I am wanting to go back to stock size with an economy o-ring chain and sprockets. I like d.i.d. but for a stock/put around set up, cheaper should be ok.

83-84 forks on 200x's are the way to go....83R rear shock too. Just swap stem of 200x into stem of 250R, bore it a tad to fit in and your riding. Then you use everything else 200x on the 250r forks since 2nd gen 250r front is is 100% the same but lenght of works and dia of forks vs 200x. Done it many times...

Thanks I couldn't find it in the manual. I have an 11 front now so gonna lose some top end. Loud DG, K&N filter and bigger Jets. Should be decent putter. Jetted it while back and might be a little rich. It kind of loads up a bit and makes me want to run it through the gears hard like a two stroke once in a while if i have been pokin along.
If i can go with some different front forks and triple, think it would be sweet.

Oldskool83- are the 86 200x and the earlier 200x's the same triple, rake, ect.? Older 250r forks would be sweet on an 86x but wondered if they were the same as 85x and below. Shew! Hope I made that question clear and understandable.

Are all the 200x triples and rakes, ect. The same? Wondering about 86x being different than 85 or earlier x models. Will 2nd gen r forks work on the 86x?
O used to jump the H outta this thing. Broke/bent the rear shock but never bent anything. Dented/ruined the origional muffler when the shocjk gave out.. I know I hopped off 7 and 8 foot mounds of dirt a few times when I was a kid. Followed an 86 Tecate around, so....

Those front ends on Oldskool83 's look real good. Probably would cost less than 350x front end too.

Are you using everything off the 350x and keeping it a leading axle?

Gonna say it again,

2nd gen 250R forks and tripples are the same as 200x just bored 2mm larger for the larger forks. Rake is the same. use 2nd gen 250r like above on my trikes id did. leading axle never handled like trailing.
