Hey all, I need some help/suggestions on getting my 110 going again. The thing was a bit of a Frankenstein when I got it, and still is, lots of parts from different years, maybe even different models entirely, but the engine is an '85. It gave up the ghost a while back and smoked alot before it did, so I figured it needed a rebuild, and first gear had a broken tooth. It sat for a while before I found time to get to it. I tore everything down, cleaned it and put it all back together with new gaskets, piston rings, and a used, good condition jug.
Much to my dismay, it won't start. I have good strong blue spark, and the plug is slightly wet when I pull it out so I think it's getting good fuel. Feels like it has compression but I'm not sure if it's enough. The thing I'm not 100% on is if I have the timing set right. I looked at the manual but it says get a timing light and check at 1700rpm. I don't have a light and it won't run so that doesn't help me. I set the cam gear to line up with the T mark and the cdi to line up with the F mark on the flywheel. Is this correct, seemed to make sense to me?
The other question is about the carb, it has a crappy Chinese carb that has served me quite well, but I'm hoping to get a better one. I read that people use 24mm mikuni but I have a goofy carb where the petcock is attached to it so how do I set one of those up? Thanks for any help you can give.

Edit: forgot to add, I thought the timing was 180 off, so I flipped it, but it didn't help. I got it to pop once and then it went back to not even trying.
