I went to replace the condenser on my 85 ATC 70 last night, but could not get the solder to stick to the condenser at all. Is there a trick to doing this? I have a 25w soldering iron and am using Rosin core solder. Is that not a hot enough soldering iron to use? I managed to get all 3 wires soldered together and then bent the tabs in so they made contact w/ the condenser. Loosely re-assembled everything so I could pull and check for spark and it is finally producing spark again. Could I just epoxy the soldered wires to the condenser?

I always use flux and Rosen core solder together , helps a lot , takes quite a bit of heat though , 25watts might not be enough . I’ll have to check but I believe my soldering gun is 60 watts .

I agree with Mike, a higher wattage gun is needed. I’ve done a lot of soldering over the years and couldn’t believe the difference once I stepped up to a higher wattage gun. Tinning your wires and tip before hand also helps.
