I came across this listing for an '85 200X gas tank with aluminum shrouds. Has anyone seen aluminum shrouds like this before?
Are they an aftermarket part or someone's garage creation? Figuring out the band would be interesting but I haven't found any ads in the few old magazines I have. There was also no additional information about them in the listing.
If nothing else, thought it would be neat to share.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200310/2f9169cffd283d8d5236c6749a330540.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200310/3848dcb694eb196ed8f8abb95c560cb8.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200310/ad2b9f455fa416a96e25a08738c126f0.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200310/ce158c1bbc0a6130ae5a0501917d8b6f.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200310/698e284df39a2bc7358b7d9e4a646c3c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200310/93139fc9159bb91955181b59849cc61b.jpg

I’m guessing home made , very dangerous having basically blades on your tank .

I'm going with the same opinion as shortline.
If it were me, I'd be running some spiked serrated axle spindles similar to the chariots in the race in Ben-Hur:naughty::D

X3, home made. Hang them on a wall and get some plastic ones.

Yup - agreed - those are homemade and make the trike even more dangerous. I say sharpen the edges and run em!

Sent from my Z958 using TapatalkI did end up pulling the trigger and purchasing the tank and shrouds. I thought they would look pretty cool on the right build. I have an '01 liquid cooled CR125R engine transplant in mind. The larger shrouds should help with air flow. That won't happen anytime soon though...
My first step is going to be to straighten everything out the best I can. From there, I'm gonna have to decide whether or not to leave the cool vintage stickers, strip the shrouds down to bare aluminum, or polish the heck out of them.
Thanks for all the feedback everyone, much appreciated!

Nice
If you need to strip them, DO NOT BEAD BLAST OR SANDBLAST THEM.
blast cabinets warp the hell out of sheet aluminum and they'll look like crap after you're done
Just some friendly advice

Chemical stripping should work.

I just realized that Tim Baird's 200X desert racer had these aluminum shrouds. I always assumed they were custom... I guess the paint job is at least lol

The would look really good polished up! And if you planned on using them on a rider and were worried about getting sliced up, you could put some of that U shaped door edge trim around the outside.
