Here is what the owner said about the Tri Z:
As a Long time owner, I can truly say that the '84 Tri-Z 250 was a total success for the serious techno performance rider that year. It was a big winner with enduro riders because of its monster mid range power. I remember reading the test results between the YZ 250 and the Tri-Z 250 and stock for stock the Tri-Z would get to the first turn every time. Mainly because of its light weight of only 297 pounds and better traction. I would recommend any Tri-Z owners to put a set of Boysen reed valves right away so that you can appreciate the true power that this Beast can put out. And there is enough steel in the cylinder to port it out to your hearts content. You can easily crank out another 10 HP out of it.
When I was done with mine I could pass the traffic at about 85 Miles an hour on a Snowy Poker Run Trail that followed the Trans-Canada!!!! No trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro! It may not have a chrome cylinder, but you can churn out enough horsepower with these Rice Burners to scare any passenger out of their minds. Not to mention that this ATV was almost a virtual submarine being that its airbox is a sealproof unit that rests where the gas tank goes.
I have one revelation though: After I blew out the stock rear shock I installed a '85 Honda 250R Rear Shock and I never bottomed out again, Ever! It made my Tri-Z so stable that I could ramp this thing about 12 feet in the air and land no problem. This thing even used to start with a half crank...!!!
