I started in March taking it down to the frame. Gusseted the frame myself (tig) welded and then had frame blasted and powdered. Gussets and dress up kit came from Brad Rye. New 86 take out motor and pretty much new everything. Crf 450 forks, triple trees were built by Louis Mielke, new Crf 450 front brakes, rear axle is a 300ex and uses one of louise’s custom adapters for that, plus 2 extended swingarm built by John Miller, rebuilt rear shock by Maultech ATV racing and repair, 10” front wheel with new tire of course, stainless brake lines build by Raymond Chan of APEX, New rear swinger skid plate by my buddy Dave Coleman, the front sprocket/chain guard came from Dave as well, new harness and stator splice was made by cory (psfixer). The take out engine had the normal cut stator wires is why I had to get the splice. I installed new aluminum engine spacers because of course the old one were so brittle that they feel apart before I even pulled the engine mount bolts. I did have a nice oem tank but I just decided instead of fighting rust and banging my knees the plastic would be better. I could be here writing all night with every little detail and new part I have installed. I ride trails mostly so that is what it is set up for. The first pic is what it was when I started it. It was a pretty nice runner. Motor ran great but I wanted to do a rider restore. As you can tell, I did not replace every nut or bolt because It will get rode. I think the biggest thing that surprised me is how well that swinger bolt came out! Take a look at that pretty thing. Slid out like butter believe it or not. With that being said this build did have its hurdles. I had lots of help with technical questions from random buddies and some of the friends that built the parts. I will be changing the seat to red soon and also possibly changing the exhaust If I can figure out a good aftermarket option that is quiet. DG, cobra and Supertraps are not an option for sure. I am thinking an xr400 header and adapt a new trx400 or 450R oem muffler. Tires and rims on the back are still decent so I am keeping them for now but may buy new at some point. Anyway I’m going to quit yapping now. I hope you enjoy checking out the build.
I have still not rode it but I did fire up the motor. If you have any questions feel free to ask away.

Nice work and finished product Captain!

I hope you don't mind, but I will offer up a couple helpful tips though. Where your rear brakeline attaches to the rear master cylinder, if you rotate the banjo counter-clockwise to the 3 o'clock position, instead of the 9 o'clock position, it should get rid of all that slack in your rear brakeline. This will also put the brakeline closer to the swingarm pivot point, which will remove the stress on the brakeline-to-banjo junction trying to flex (as the rear suspension goes through it's travel), and place that stress on a flexable portion of the brakeline.

And, if you want that OEM headlight look, these rubber straps will work great for attaching your headlight to the forks. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Acerbis-Headlight-Replacement-Rubber-Strap/273931384193?epid=171208134&hash=item3fc7953581:g:DaYAAOSw1~JdLcod

Looks great bud, was a very good platform to start with!!

Lots of good guys out there with parts and services that are affordable.

Sell that metal tank and recoup quite a bit, they bring good money...

I seen this a few weeks ago, it looks absolutely fantastic in person. You did a phenomenal job bringing it all together.
