Local guy who is very knowledgeable on ATCs is selling an 85 OEM 70. Went to look at it today. Looks really good minus some minor cracks in the OEM fenders. Little bit of white smoke on cold start - otherwise ran strong. Wants $1,200 for it. Got to talking and mentioned my 85 NOS "take-out" 250R motor that has never been fired. We are both considering an even trade. I have a 6 & 7 year old that would be riding the 70. Is this a good deal? Thanks!

If it was me I wouldn't do it. Cracks in the fender, wrong seat cover. There are still ATC 70s out there in good shape that people find for cheap. Finding a NOS 85 250R"take out motor", good luck on that! Just my 2 cents.

Only if he throws at least 500 on top of that offer . The nos motor is worth more IMO .

Also the 70 has an incorrect carburetor , possibly China knock off .

I should probably research what my 250R motor is really worth....have had it about 10 years. Just sitting in a box.

No way on the even trade. As mentioned above. Wrong seat cover, cracked fender, tire burn on rear fenders, etc. Looking at the pics - maybe I am wrong but the front forks don't look right - pushed in - my guess the frame is bent upwards under the gas tank (easy fix) - took a hard hit in the front. Does the front fender hit the head when turned both ways?? The 70 is in decent shape for it's age but not worth a NOS 250R motor - JMHO. Good luck.

Yeah good call on all of that. I think I was just struck with excitement for my kids. I'll keep my eye out at some farms around here. What do you think my NOS motor is worth nowadays?

Here is the motor I have, by the way. Pretty good shape minus shelf (actually in box) wear and dust.

I'm not a Honda guy or an investor, but that looks like money in the bank to me.

15-1800 imo
With a large audience like eBay maybe a little more if you get two knuckle heads wanting it !
