I think 83 had a different connector for the cdi.

83 had two options for CDI's, one was a 3 + 4 pin connector, while later 83 and 84-85 had a round 6 pin connector. Besides the CDI connector, the harnesses interchange, and if you match the CDI to the harness, you can switch connector types just fine.

Here's a post that has images I made up to help ID harnesses per year.

86-87 200x harnesses are completely a different layout vs the 83-85 ones.

Ok thanks. My kid just dug a 200x out of my parts bikes. Wiring is all hacked up. Has about 1000 layers of paint over vin and tag is gone. Just needed to see how critical knowing the year was to source a replacement harness.

If you can't read the vin, maybe the engine serial number is readable? Normally it's stamped on the engine crankcase near the bottom on a flat section.

Here's my vin decoder I made that also supports the engine serial numbers. Your engine serial should start with TB05E.

Engine is not original. It had a 200m motor in it when I got it. Built a x motor and installed. 18 years ago. Never got around to wiring it up.
