Traded my 83 atc 70 for an 85 sx250 ( has 86 tank) and repainted the tank. Bought some spray oil and engine fluid resistant duplicolor clear and dont think it's going to work. I did search but did not find any existing threads on this. Anyone find or use a good gas resistant fuel tank clear coat?

Out of a rattle can this is as good as it gets. A little pricey but works great, let it cure about 5- days then a nice coat of wax you’ll be good. Haven’t had any fuel issues yet, just slight yellowing around/under the gas cap but that’s it. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F25 3237339600

DONT breath it in!!!! It’s bad stuff, it’ll kill you. Read the can, grab a painting respirator from Lowe’s or wherever. There cheap.

Your base color can not intrude into the tank you need this clear coat to be the sealer on the steel tank otherwise gas/fumes will seap under your base. So just like an 1/8” of bare metal “just” around the filler hole top- hope that makes sense.
Gas/fumes must hit this clear first

And I’m no expert “but” I did stay at a holiday inn express hotel last night.....jk
