in the search of MO POWAH. i decided to go with a yz250, work the bugs out, then go with a esr 325 kit. unfortunately since im working about 3 hrs away from home. i cant work at the pace it would like. here are pics of the donor. Issues i can already see is no lights, exh exits on the other side, kickstarter direction, and carb boot is angled. im going to weigh the engines and get some side by side pics. more to come.

The tecate kid did a very similar project a few years back, but he never posted with a ride report on the power, as he was working out some suspension issues.

Should be an interesting build. Does the YZ250 engine have no lighting coil in the engine? Do you have a service manual for the bike, if so I'd love a digital copy. If it does have a lighting coil, it should be 1, 2, or 3 wire, 1 and 2 should be 1 phase (normal AC), and 3 wire should be 3 phase. I'd assume if it has a lighting coil it will be single phase though. I don't have the tri-z manual in front of me, but pretty sure it's also single phase.

I might be able to help with a custom harness on this project assuming you're mounting electrical parts in the Tri-Z stock locations. If you're not interested that's ok too, I'll try to help with what I can, just don't think I have the YZ manual. Talking about the YZ, what year is it?

Sadly, I don't really know the Yamaha engines so well, so can't really help with ideas for parts like the intake issue. I suspect the kick start problem will be a bit of a challenge, you think it will clear the rear wheel? Might just have to remove the rear fenders to start it. Maybe it would be possible to push start it lol.

Good luck with the build though

tri has no kicker on, has carbon reeds, and a cool head. yz has factory steel reeds, head, and kicker and no lighting coil.
