well I took my axle to work today and asked one of the tech to get those two nuts that need the spanner wrench to rremove off, he ended up taking it apon himself to remove my rear axle, and used a metal hammer to beat it out. Each axle end is smashed down to the bottom of the cotter pin holes, any ideas on something I can do to make this still useable??? I was thinking cut the bad section off and loc-tite the nuts on instead of using the pins. Any ideas at all are welcome, thanks

Well, first, take the axle and bash that idiot in the head with it.

Maybe a machine shop could fix the threads for you. I wouldn't trust loctite to hold the axle nuts on.

Dittos to what he said.

Too bad, all that clown had to do is hold a piece of 2x4 in front of it, and he could whack on it all day without trashing it. After you whack him with the axle, whack him with the 2x4 he should have used.

I did this to mine and fixed it. An impact wrench will back the nuts off of the axle (even all mangled like that). Then, just file down and rethread the axle. -- I had to go to the small engine shop and watch them because I didn't have the tools but they didn't charge me--it's not very hard with the right tools. -- oh, when you put it back together, use some red locktite on the axle nuts just in case. You'll also have to cut and redrill the codder pin holes.

I work at a GM dealer ship, ASE certified. Guess that test wasn't too hard. Got a lead on an axle for 30 smackers....good deal. Want something done right do it yourself (or watch the other guy to make sure he doesn't mess up).

use aircraft nuts...and drilla hole in your axil twards the center in the middle on where the cotter key usedto go in and bolt it on with a washer so the nut doesnt back off...

...if all else fails, make him buy you a brand spankin new one.

I don't have any good ideas for fixing it, but I know 2 things.

1)I sure as hell wouldn't want this guy to work on my vehicle. A dealer trained(I assume) mechanic shouldn't be doing stupid crap like that.

2)I would make him pay for the new axle, or make him pay to have the ends fixed.

My 2 1/2 cents.

well, if you can get another one for $30, get it, most machine shope charge at least $60 an hour labor with an hour minimum. it really wouldnt take much to fix your axle with a lathe, but it would still cost you about $60. if you know someone that works in a machine shopk, you might be able to talk them into fixing it for you for a case of "pepsi" or something. i used to do a lot of "goverment" work in the shops i worked at. good luck.
